We had a practice later that day with about 8 people, more than usual, but still not enough to really practice. We learned 3 new plays. Luckily we had about 30 plays during my college days, so learning 3 was beyond reasonable! Our practice was a lot of drills, which is usually what you get during preseason no matter what. If you worked hard then you got a good workout in. This was interesting to see which players really wanted to work hard, and which ones would take every escape route possible. At times I wished I had my college coaches around because people would not have gotten away with so much of taking off drills, faking injuries, and just not going hard in general. All you would have heard is, “on the line”, and the lackadaisical effort would have been cut short.
After practice, we took our first walk to the dumpster. It is a row of large trash cans inside a gated area in our apartment complex. As I went in to throw away my trash I held my breath because the stench was awful. I looked around for which can wasn’t overflowing; as I looked around, I saw a mother and her two children lying down in a corner. It broke my heart to see someone living there when I could barely stand to breathe in the air. Later on, I found out this is what they called, gypsies. After I dumped my trash and exited, the family rushed to the can to see what I had thrown away. It made me so sad to see that happen. After I thought about it, I felt even worse because anyone that knows me knows that I always finish my meal so there is not much left for scraps.
